Raingutter Regatta Rules

Raingutter Regatta Rules

·         The Regatta must have been built this year.

·         The SINGLE (no double-hull / catamaran style) hull may be no longer than 7.0 inches nor shorter than 6.5 inches

·         The mast should measure 6.5 inches from deck to top

·         The keel, rudder, sail, and mast supplied in the kit must be used.  No alterations may be made to the keel or rudder.

·         The sail should not touch the bottom of the mast.  However, the ends of the sail MAY touch the edges of the regatta.

·         There are no restrictions on color or designs on the boat

Regatta Construction Tips

Sandpaper the balsa hull to the desired shape, adhering to the specifications above.  First use a fine grade sandpaper, then finish with a very fine grade sandpaper.  Apply two coats of sanding sealer and paint the model.  The mast can be tapered with either a hand or electric drill.  While you carefully turn the dowel, work a piece of sandpaper back and forth until the desired shape is achieved.  Glue the sail to the dowel / mast.

·          No lubricants will be used on the rubber bands.

Space Derby Construction Tips

Make sure the red straw goes around the "S-Hook" on the inside of the propeller. Do NOT glue the nose on.  The propeller MUST be installed with the round / smooth side facing the rest of the rocket (away from the direction of travel and against the bushing).
