Our Pinewood Derby is coming up on Saturday, January 30th at the Seabrook Community House across from City Hall. Pinewood Derby, 2010 is coming but we need the pit crew

Everybody likes a great race, especially one that involves our entire pack and their family members.  Last year's race turned out to be a major event with a visit from the Mayor, food, a bounce house and a real race car.  Well, can we top this for 2010?  We need parents from all scout ranks to participate on the pit crew (derby committee) to pull this off.  Please contact Chris Grafe if you have what it takes to join the crew.  Click here to send him an e-mail ==>  SEND CHRIS AN E-MAIL

Blue and Gold Brainstorming Sessions

Please join me in brainstorming ideas for the Blue and Gold Banquet coming up in February 2010.  Our theme is Happy Birthday BSA to celebrate 100 years of scouting.  JoLynn Brookes and Deanna Anderson are already preparing plans for the facilities and meal portion of the event, now we need a program.

We will be meeting Tuesday, December 1 at 7:30 PM and December 2 at noon at my house (3414 Bay Breeze Drive).  Please plan to attend one of these sessions (or both if you like!).  You can check out some of the following links for ideas:

http://www.scoutingthenet.com/Training/Roundtable/Handouts/  and follow the link for February 2010 ( or refer to the pdf below)

 http://usscouts.org/bbugle/bb0707.pdf

The Blue and Gold program usually covers all Cub Scout advancement to the next rank, leader recognition, special guests, some skits/songs/run-ons, and fundraiser awards.

Best, Enora

Fundraising Central - UPDATES - PLEASE FOLLOW LINK

The October 10th Super Night marked the 2009 Fundraiser kickoff Season.  As you are aware, the two fundraisers (popcorn and wreathes) is how the pack funds its great activities, like the Super Night.  Without everybody's full support and commitment to raise funds, pack events are not possible.  Our fundraiser guru, chairperson, superstar is Janet Bright and she is coordinating this activity.  So, to make sure we have all information in one location, FUNDRAISER CENTRAL has been created.

Here is a look  ==> CLICK ME

Recent Leaders Meetings - What is going on?

There has been some confusion on the two leaders meetings held in the past two weeks.  Larger packs (which Pack 95 has become) usually separate their committee meetings from the den leader meetings.  The purpose is to allow the committee and the den leaders to focus on specific items within their scope.  Pack members interested in participating on the pack leadership teams - please contact any of the leaders - your participation is really needed!!

Arrow of Light Ceremony - NOW April 24th, Pine Gulley Park

The forecast is calling for rain, thus the AOL ceremony is now scheduled for April 24th.  Pack 95's annual Arrow of Light Ceremony will be held this Friday starting at 7:00 pm, Pine Gulley Park in Seabrook.  Scouts and their families are strongly encouraged to attend as our 5th grade Webelos cross over to become boy scouts.  Be sure to bring a chair, bug spray and perhaps an umbrella.  Se you there.

Pack 95 Announcement - New Cub Master:  Nick Cocchia

Well, he certainly needs no introduction to our pack.  Nicholas Cocchia is the new Pack 95 Cub Master starting immediately.  Nick has been an outstanding contributor to our pack for the past three years as a committee member and as an assistant in anything that needs to be done.  His commitment to scouting is matched with his wonderful, easy-going personality that all of us have been fortunate enough to witness.

Pack 95 sincerely thanks Matt Bordelon for his two years of service as the Cub Master.  His devotion to the pack has led us to the great successes we enjoy today.  Now here is the good news - Matt isn't going anywhere!  He will continue to serve the pack as the Assistant Cub Master going forward.

Pack 95 Family Camping Event at Lake Texana - REPORT OUT

30 Pack 95 members and family enjoyed perfect camping weather for the camping event.  The pack enjoyed games, presentations, hiking, fishing with daytime highs in the upper 70's and cool dry nights.  Even though the fishing was a bit sparse, this didn't take away from all of the other fun to be had.  The park is loaded with wild life including owls, armadillos, song birds, deer and gators.

Trash Bash '09 - March 28th Seabrook

Pack 95 will be participating in this year's Trash Bash in Seabrook.  Since this event is early in the day, it will not interfere with the Blue and Gold event held later in the day.  Our participating scouts will receive patches.  Here are the details: (http://www.trashbash.org/site_galveston_bay_seabrook.htm)

Blue and Gold - March 28th, Ed White Elementary

The plans are set for this year's Blue and Gold festivities.  The schedule will be posted later today (3/23/2009).

2009 Blue & Gold Banquet

“Cubscouts & Indians”

Many of you have participated in Pack 95’s Blue & Gold Banquet in previous years but we have many new parents that have not so I wanted to provide the following information.

What is Blue & Gold Banquet and why do we have one every year?

The Blue and Gold Banquet is a celebration of Scouting during the month of February, the anniversary month of the Boy Scouts of America, (being held March due to Hurricane Ike).  It is also a celebration of Baden Powell’s birthday, (Lord Baden Powell was the founder of Scouting).  We use this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our adult leaders as well as acknowledge scout advancements.

When

March 28, 2009

What Time

5:30 p.m.

Where

Ed White Cafeteria

What does each Den need to do for the banquet?

·        Decorate their table using the Indian Tribe they chose as inspiration

Each den will have their own tables to decorate.  I suggest that each den chose two or three scout parents to organize the table decorations.  The tables are 6ft by 30” and total amount of tables reserved for your den is based on the head count provided by your den leader.  For example if you have a total of 24 scouts, siblings and adults your den will have four 6ft tables reserved.  They are set up in a straight row and the Pack will cover the tables with blue plastic tablecloths.  Dens may start decorating their tables at 2:30 p.m. the day of the banquet and must be done by 5:00 p.m.

·        Provide a dessert that will serve 30 to 35 people

There will be a contest for the best looking dessert and the winner will be announced that evening.  Be creative!  All dens need to participate or we will not have enough dessert for everyone.

What else can you help with?

·        Need parent volunteers for the following:

Set Up tables for entire pack (1:00 to 3:00)

Set Up Food Line (4:00 to 5:30)

Serve Food (during banquet) we will have two groups of servers so that you will still be able to dine with your scout

Clean up (after banquet)

Please Volunteer we have a big group this year and need lots of help.

·        Scout Photos

We need everyone to send in their scout photos for the photo presentation that is being created for this year’s Blue & Gold.  Want to see your beautiful scout up on the big screen then send me your photos at jolynn@moraschlaw.com or call me on my cell to pick up a CD at 281 610-3220

Thanks to all the den leaders for responding quickly to my request for which Indian tribe their dens have chosen to honor at  their B&G table.  We have a great selection.

Pinewood Derby Results & Events Report

Not even the constant threat of rain could put a damper on the fun everybody had on Saturday.  This includes our Seabrook Mayor Gary Renola who not only kicked off the event, but stayed throughout the entire day and raced his pace car in the open class taking a respectable third place.  But this was a day to be a kid.  Our scouts and siblings enjoyed great food, great play, a bouncy house and oh yeah, the race.  Allan Spencer served as the Master of Ceremonies but it was the scouts who called "go" to start each race.  And race we did - 90 times!!  For those taking pictures, please forward your best shots to the webmaster (link at bottom left) and I will compile an electronic scrapbook.  A full presentation of results was e-mailed but here are the top racers for the pack:

Got Old/Used Household Batteries (Single use & rechargeable)?

Great!  Getting rid of your old batteries helps our Pack 95 Webelo I's with their Cobra Den Service Project.  Here is how:  most household batteries in the USA (not your car battery) end up in landfills, rather than at recycling centers where their metals and chemicals can be reprocessed.  As agents of positive change in our environment, our Webelo I's are leading the drive to collect as many old/used batteries and to teach us how easy it is to conserve and preserve natural resources in our environment.  So let's help them out - rummage through your junk drawers, empty old toys, digital cameras, change the batteries in that often failing remote control, gather your spent collections of batteries and maybe it is time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.   Bring all of these batteries to the pinewood derby for our scouts to collect - you can even use the nifty bags handed out at the last Pack meeting.  Or you can take them yourselves to where the scouts are taking their collections:

Biosphere 1 recycle center

3301 Loop 197 North (409-643-5814)

Mon-:Sat, 8am-4pm Sunday, noon-4pm

Please note all of the other great things the Biosphere recycles, as well.  Please no car or marine batteries.

Pack 95 Power Night October 20th Report

The Pack's turbo charge pushmobiles were on display last night at our Power Night.  All dens showcased their latest rides as the scouts burnt up the bus lanes at Bay Elementary School.  After an hour practice, the pack convened in the school's gymnasium for the monthly pack meeting.  After a top-notch flag presentation by our 5th grade Webelos, several scouts were presented achievement belt loops and and pins.  Our 2008 Space Derby winners were met with a healthy round of applause as they stepped forward to be recognized.

In attendance was our newest members of Pack 95 as this was also our first Rally Night.  Over a dozen new scouts with their parents heard presentation on the pack's activities and all of the fun to be had.  WELCOME!!!

CANCELLED Pack 95 Monthly Fishing / Learn to Fish Saturday, September 20 @ Pine Gully Park CANCELLED

One of the key aspects of Cub Scouts is getting out doors and spending time with our boys.  One of the ways that we can do this within the context of Cub Scouting is through fishing.

So, a number of us have discussed starting a monthly fishing event where we could teach the boys about fishing and help them to have a good time.  In line with this, I have put together the attached flyer outlining our first monthly fishing event.  This will be as follows:
Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Pine Gully Park in Seabrook
8:00 – 9:00 Learn to Fish Basics
9:00 – 11:00 Fishing from the Pier
During the first hour, we (myself and other volunteers) will teach the boys some of the basic fishing skills outlined in the TPWD junior angler skills checklist.  This should be particularly valuable for both new Tigers and those scouts that are less experienced in terms of fishing.  Likewise, it should help them to get the feel for fishing prior to the District Fishing Tournament the next Saturday.  (thanks Nick!)

Status of this event is not known.  We are trying to get a return communication from the city to confirm/cancel the flag ceremony.

On the scene Report:  Webelos II City Council Flag Ceremony - September 2nd

A full compliment of council members were part of the prestigious crowd on-hand to witness the Webelo II's opening of  the council meeting with a flag ceremony.  Benjamin Bova, Harrison Bright, Jay Clifton, Garret Gouldin and Chad Nelson were flag bearers and Walter Morris was the speaker.  This was Walter's first time as the speaker and he did an excellent job.  The boys had the chance to mingle with the very friendly, appreciative council members before the meeting.  It is a truly great experience for all of our scouts to get a chance to speaker in such a public setting.  GREAT JOB BOYS!!

Pack Fall Kick Off Coverage

The annual Pack 95 Kick Off was held on August 23rd at Meador Park Pavilion in Seabrook.  The pack enjoyed a wild water balloon launch and many of the boys tried to catch the water missiles.  The water felt great!  This was the first major event for the pack so many of the boys reunited with their fellow scouts.  Den leaders gathered their dens to discuss the future meetings.  An abundant supply of freshly prepared hot dogs with all of the fixing made sure nobody went home hungry.

Afterwards during the pack meeting, Matt recognized all of the scouts who accomplished achievements over the summer, including those boys who demonstrated their master marksmanship during the Summer Twilight Camp.

Janet discussed the details of the Pack's upcoming (and already arrived) fund raising.  Information regarding both the popcorn and wreath sales were thoroughly discussed.  Stay tuned to this site for a page dedicated to the fund raisers, including answers to all of your questions.

Cub Scout yard signs were distributed in support of the upcoming Elementary School Rally.  Need a sign?  Send us an e-mail.

This was also a great chance for new scouts to join the pack.  Laurie, the pack's secretary collected forms and provided information on what forms should be completed.  Please e-mail (link at bottom of page) with any questions.

Pack 95 Leaders Meeting - September 7th

The pack's next leaders meeting is scheduled for 7:00 pm September 7th at the Ed White Youth Center.  All current and future leaders are strongly encouraged to attend.
