Updated October 6th, am

New Pack 95 T-shirts have been ordered

And are expected the week of June 1st.  Our first order consisted of 92 shirts, filling direct orders only.  If you did not order your shirts this time, there is good news!!  We are planning to have a second run and are now taking orders.  Please check your e-mail for details on how to order.  Once we have enough, this time including an inventory for new scouts, we will go to press.

The shirt prices were kept to a minimum to help facilitate the transition to the new color and provide scouts and their families a lighter, more comfortable shirt they could afford as we enter the summer months.

Pack Meeting - Taylor Lake Village Park Report Out

The threat of rain could not dampen the spirits of the feisty group of scouts.  Not this type.  Den 9 provided a comical introduction, then Nick updated the pack with the latest calendar of events.  Then it was on to the achievements and finally to what all of the kids were waiting for - water games.  Joe Layden et. al. organized and ran several water games and nobody left disappointed or dry.  Next it was a campfire next to the water and the tradition of Smores.  Thanks to all who helped with the wonderful night.

LAST CALL - Lake Livingston Campout June 5th-7th

If you are planning to attend and have not yet signed up, please do so at once.  Contact Nick Cocchia to let him know you are coming.

Just a reminder . . . We will be doing a Pack Camp Out at Lake Livingston State Park to celebrate the end of the school year.

This camp out will begin on Friday, June 5th and we will break camp on Sunday, June 7th  --  If you can't make it until Saturday that is okay, as we will have plenty of activities going on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Coinciding with our camp out is the Walmart Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday morning  --  when I spoke to Ranger Ronnie he was very excited that we would be bringing our contingent of Scouts.  As a note . . . in general, when the State Parks have a 'Learn to Fish' event or a Tournament they typically have nice door prizes (fishing poles, tackle boxes, hats, shirts, flashlights, etc) for all the kids.

While I have had a few responses (Thanks for letting me know), I really need to get a pretty good count as soon as possible, so that I can reserve the correct number of sites at the Park before they all fill up.  I will likely reserve between 5 and 10 sites, based on responses.  Since the rule is 8 per site that is enough for 40 to 80 people camping over the 2 day event.

Also, we need to have a planning meeting  --  ideally this week  --  so that we can firm up the schedule and determine what we are going to have in terms of meals.  Anyone who would like to be part of this planning meeting should let me know as soon as you can.  I'm shooting for Thursday evening.  I'm counting on the usual suspects and hope for a few new ones.

Finally, this is Cub Scout Family Camping, so you bring siblings and other family membrers   --  who may want to use the swimming pool ($3 for 13 years and older; $2 for up to 12 years old) or go horseback riding ($25 for a one-hour guided ride).

Pack 95 Subcommittee Volunteers Needed

Pack 95 is driven by several fine parents who donate their time to oversee den and pack activities.  Additionally there are several others, both adults and siblings, who step up at specific events to really make a difference - the pinewood derby and the recent camping trip are perfect examples.  To help better steer these activities for the 2009-2010 program year, 5 subcommittees within the pack have been defined.  These are:

Derby Committee - Pinewood, Raingutter Regatta, Space and Pushmobile

Pack Program Committee - Pack Meetings, Blue & Gold

Activities Committee - Lexington, Scout Sunday, Scout Fair, etc.

Camping Committee - Camping Trips

Finance Committee - Budget, Fundraisers

The aim is to have one volunteer from each den on each of the five committees mentioned above?  Why?  Because our pack is full of adults with great ideas.  We need to harvest this input and creativity to continue to improve the pack - your ideas are essential to the successes we all can enjoy.  The time commitment for each of these positions will not be very great - the results will!!  Please consider filling at least one of these volunteer positions - we really need more input.

Pack 95 Summer Camps - Twilight Camp and & Bovay Camp

By now you should have received e-mails regarding both of these fine summer camps for our scouts.  As Pack 95 enters the planning stages, please consider volunteering your time be an adult leader for our kids.  More details are forthcoming - stay tuned.

Pay Camp fees with Scout Fair tickets

As everyone is trying to find ways of saving money, here's a new one.  Get out there and sell Scout Fair tickets and earn your way to camp this summer.

Scout Fair Stamps are redeemable for gift certificates. These can be used at the Houston Scout Shop, or for registration through June 10th at any Sam Houston Area summer camp, Webelos summer camp at Bovay, and our own Bayshore District Twilight Camp.

Once you've earned your stamps, the catch is you have to ask for the certificate in the correct dollar amount to cover the camp that you plan on using it towards as there will be NO change given.

For example, if you qualify for a $60 certificate (earning 90 stamps) and you want to use it to pay for Twilight Camp, you need to request a $50 certificate for Twilight Camp and the remaining $10 can be put on a Scout Shop gift card.    If you get the entire $60 on a single certificate, Twilight Camp can not give you the $10 change.

So, help pay your way to Summer Camp this year by getting out there and selling ticket.
